Reviews from UK Riders

What a trip! I had been liaising with Raj since 2019 but unfortunately due to covid our 2020 trip was cancelled. After a lot of communication, mainly me being indecisive about where we wanted to go... Raj put a package together to suit my requests. Communication prior to the trip was fantastic and instantly put me at ease. We met Raj and felt like I knew him already after my years of emails!

I cannot fault any part of the trip. We had our driver Preveen and mechanic Aakash alongside Raj heading up our trip. What a group of people. I didn't want to leave them after 2 weeks of being together!

We saw real India! Rajasthan was everything I imagined and exceeded expectations. Temples, Forts, desert, everything you could every want in a motorcycle trip. Raj gave insight to local food which was exactly what I wanted.

I fell in love with my Royal Enfield 500 and constantly look back at the 1800 photos that were taken!

Sorting annual leave our and saving some money and will be booking to come back to explore another part of India.

Thank you Raj and team for making it the trip it was!

I was with Brahmand Tour on the Heritage Himachal Pradesh Motorbike Trip. The tour was very well organized. The communication in advance was very pleasant. Pick-ups at the various stations (airport, train stations, ...) went smoothly. Special thanks to the team that joined me on the motorcycle tour. The Bramand Tour team always made sure that I felt comfortable. The overnight stays were very well chosen and always emphasized the special features of the respective region. Bramand Tour honestly described the tour as a beginner's tour and the tour can also be mastered by less experienced motorcyclists. Bramand Tour is definitely an option for your next motorcycle tour in India.

Frequently Asked Questions (UK)

Is the Himalayan terrain suitable for riders used to UK roads?

Yes, with guidance. UK riders are accustomed to excellent road infrastructure, so Himalayan riding feels raw and adventurous at first. However, guided tours pace the journey carefully and provide continuous instruction, allowing UK riders to adapt comfortably within the first few days.

What about licenses and permits for UK riders?

UK riders need a valid UK motorcycle licence, an International Driving Permit (IDP), Indian eVisa, passport, and travel insurance. Tour operators handle all route permits and regional permissions.

How does riding in India compare to riding in the UK?

Riding in India is far more immersive and demanding than typical UK riding. Instead of structured motorways and predictable traffic, you'll experience constantly changing terrain, tighter mountain roads, varied surfaces, and dynamic traffic patterns. Many UK riders find the experience far more engaging, rewarding, and mentally stimulating than European touring.

When should UK riders book Himalayan tours?

UK riders typically secure spots 10-12 months in advance for peak Himalayan seasons (June-September). Early booking ensures preferred departure dates and motorcycle selection.

Do UK citizens need a visa to visit India?

Yes, British citizens require an Indian visa. The most convenient option is the eVisa (eTourist Visa), applied online at indianvisaonline.gov.in. Processing typically takes 3-5 business days. Your passport must have at least 6 months validity from arrival. Brahmand Tour provides full visa guidance to UK riders during the booking process.

What motorcycles will I ride on the tour?

Tours primarily use Royal Enfield motorcycles including the Himalayan 450 for mountain expeditions and Classic 350 for cultural and highway routes. These machines are robust, well-maintained, and ideal for Indian conditions. All bikes are fitted with panniers, crash guards, and are fully serviced before each tour departure.

What should I pack for riding in India?

Bring your riding jacket, gloves, sturdy boots, and layered clothing for varying temperatures. A waterproof outer layer is essential as weather changes quickly in the mountains. Sunscreen, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, personal medications, and a basic first-aid kit are recommended. Your tour operator provides a complete packing checklist before travel.

How is altitude sickness managed on Himalayan routes?

Our Himalayan itineraries include planned acclimatization days, gradual altitude gain, and support vehicles carrying oxygen cylinders. Road captains monitor all riders for altitude symptoms daily. Riders can rest in the support vehicle if needed and rejoin the ride when recovered. Staying well hydrated and avoiding alcohol at altitude helps significantly.

What standard of accommodation should UK riders expect?

Accommodation includes comfortable hotels in cities, heritage properties in Rajasthan, and the best available guesthouses in remote Himalayan regions. In areas like Ladakh and Spiti, options are basic but clean, with hot water and meals provided. Desert camp stays in Rajasthan offer a unique cultural highlight. Standards are selected to balance comfort with authentic adventure.

Are meals included and can you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes, breakfast and dinner are included on most tours. Indian cuisine naturally offers extensive vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices. For specific dietary needs or allergies, inform us at booking and we coordinate with all accommodation and restaurants along the route. Lunch stops feature local eateries where riders choose from varied menus.

Is travel insurance mandatory for UK riders?

Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is required for all international riders. Your policy must cover motorcycle riding, medical emergencies, high-altitude activities for Himalayan tours, trip cancellation, and emergency evacuation. We recommend adventure-specific travel insurance and riders must carry proof of coverage throughout the tour.

Can I join as a solo rider from the UK?

Absolutely. Many UK riders join scheduled international group departures and connect with fellow adventure riders from around the world. Private tours are also available for solo riders or small groups wanting a bespoke experience with a dedicated road captain and support vehicle. Typical group sizes range from 6 to 12 riders.

How much does a motorcycle tour in India cost for UK riders?

Tour packages typically range from £1,200 to £3,200 depending on route, duration, and accommodation level. This includes motorcycle rental with fuel, expert road captain, backup vehicle with mechanic, accommodation, meals (breakfast and dinner), all permits, and airport transfers. International flights and travel insurance are additional. Contact us for a detailed quote tailored to your preferred tour.
