Each stop is carefully planned, and you will also get to experience the culture of the region, from the Tibetan influence of Dharamshala to the Silk Road history of Leh. This Himalayan road trip is full of cultural interactions, scenic views and rest moments to balance it all out.
A highlight of this motorcycle tour of the Himalayas is the Atal Tunnel which allows a scenic and safe descent from Lahaul Valley into the greener surroundings of Manali. The tunnel is a modern engineering marvel and a quicker alternative to the Rohtang Pass. As you ride through the tunnel you emerge into the lush valley landscapes of Manali.
The trip takes you through some of the toughest terrains of the Himalayas, the famous Cliffhanger Road in Killar, the serene Bhaga River in Jispa and the ancient Buddhist monasteries of Zanskar Valley. Welcome to India! Upon arrival at the airport, a Brahmand Tour representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Take some time to relax and settle in. This evening explore Delhi’s streets, try some local food and feel the energy of the city as you begin your adventure.
Fly from Delhi to Dharamshala and then head into the hill town of Palampur. Surrounded by tea gardens and mountains we will introduce you to your motorcycle and do a safety briefing to get you ready for the amazing days ahead. After that do a short test ride to get familiar with the terrain and your bike. The evening is free to explore Palampur’s landscapes or relax and recharge for the next day.
Get ready to ride to Chamba, a cultural and heritage hill town. The road is scenic with great mountain views and many stops to capture the beauty of this Himalayan paradise. We will stop at a local Dhaba (food stall) in Chowari for a mountain lunch. In Chamba take a walk around the local market where you will see traditional crafts and hill town charm.
Today’s ride is the highlight of any Himalayan bike tour, we will take you to the daring Sach Pass at 4,420 meters. Sach Pass is known for its off-road trails, it connects Chamba Valley to the isolated Pangi Valley, with dramatic mountain landscapes, waterfalls, river crossing and more. We will stop for lunch at Bairagarh and then continue on the rocky terrain. This is where the Himalayas show off their raw beauty, with snow walls and mountain trails. We will end the day in Killar which is a remote village in Pangi Valley.
Today we will ride deeper into the Himalayas, to Jispa via Bhaili Jot. As we enter the Lahaul Valley you will see the change in landscape, Buddhist temples, stupas and unique rock formations will start to appear. Enjoy the scenery, glaciers and alpine meadows will be your backdrop. Spend the evening in the valley, a perfect place to rest before we head to higher altitudes.
Today’s ride is the most challenging so far, as we cross Shinkula Pass (5,091m) and enter the isolated Zanskar Valley. Known for its off-road adventures, this route will push your skills to the limit as you ride rough terrain and descend to the remote villages of Zanskar. Lunch at Purne and then ride on the twisties to Padum, a beautiful village surrounded by mountains.
Early morning ride to an unforgettable day, through ancient villages, monasteries and breathtaking landscapes. Today we will cross Singe La (5,009m) and Sir Sir La (4,832m), two of the highest passes on this tour. Lunch at a local Dhaba and enjoy the vast untouched beauty of the Zanskar mountains. Arrive at Lamayuru, also known as “Moonland” for its moon-like landscape – an out-of-this-world end to an epic day.
Morning ride around Lamayuru and then ride to Leh, the cultural hub of Ladakh. On the way see the unique blend of spirituality and nature of Ladakh: Magnetic Hill, Patthar Sahib Gurudwara and the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. Reach Leh and explore the markets, a mix of traditional and modern Ladakhi life.
Take a day to relax and explore Leh at your own pace. Walk through the ancient streets, visit local monasteries or just enjoy the views from the top of the city. Your bike will be serviced for the next day. For a deeper understanding of Leh’s history and culture, take a guided tour with local experts.
Ride out of Leh and towards Tanglang-La Pass (5,328m), the third-highest motorable pass in the world. The views are breathtaking. Cross Lachulung-La (5,065m) and Naki La (4,877m) and then reach Sarchu. After a few hours ride, ride to Umling La Pass- the World’s highest motorable pass in the World. The Sarchu to Umling La Pass distance is approx 168 Km. Camp overnight at a picturesque campsite on the Ladakh-Himachal border.
Ride through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the Himalayas. Cross Baralacha Pass (4,850 meters) and the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel—the world’s longest high-altitude tunnel. Through the Kullu Valley and into Manali by evening. Explore the town’s market and enjoy the bustle of this popular hill station.
On the last day, ride through the green Kullu Valley famous for its forests, villages and mountain views. Enjoy the fresh air stop at scenic points and pass by Diana National Park. As we reach Palampur, take a last look at the Himalayas and cherish the memories of the trip.
After breakfast, a short drive takes you to Dharamshala’s Gaggal Airport where you’ll board your flight to Delhi and connect to your onward journey. Think back to your Himalayan road trip - a trip of a lifetime, full of experiences, friendships and the raw Himalayas.
