The route from Hanle to Tso Kar winds through Nyoma and Mahe, following narrow blacktop trails and dusty stretches flanked by mountains painted in shades of brown and red. Riding here feels like floating across the roof of the world- no trees, no villages for miles, just endless sky and open plateau.
As the day unfolds, the altitude dips slightly and reaching near Tso Kar Lake, a saltwater basin shimmering under the high Himalayan sun. Known as the “White Lake” for its salt deposits, it’s home to wild kiangs (Tibetan wild asses), migratory birds, and surreal reflections of the peaks around it.
Arriving by evening, park your bike near the lakeside camp, where the stillness seems to broken only by the whispering wind. Watch the sunset here and the lake glowing gold against the barren backdrop that will make your miles of ride a worth.
