Yes. Upper Mustang is a restricted area of Nepal. Foreign riders need:

  • Restricted Area Permit (RAP) that is issued only through a Nepal government–registered trekking/tour agency.
  • Cost: USD $500 for the first 10 days, then $50 per extra day beyond that.
  • You must travel with a licensed guide; solo independent travel isn’t allowed inside the restricted zone.
  • ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit): Required because your route crosses the Annapurna Conservation Area.
  • ID & vehicle documents: Passport copy, valid motorcycle driving license (international if applicable), bike registration/insurance if using your own bike. If renting, the outfitter handles the bike docs.
