Canadian Rider Experiences

Seven of us just completed a customized 16 day motorcycle and 3 day sight seeing tour of the Indian Himalayas and New Delhi area with Raj as our ride Guide.

Planning started in 2019 for a 2020 trip but Covid cancelled that unfortunately. Planning started again in 2022 for a 2023 ride but we couldn’t get enough riders till June 2024.

Throughout that time Raj answered all of my questions promptly with helpful information (there must have been 500+ emails!). Raj was very patient and helpful in planning a customized tour for our group.

Raj also arranged converting our Canadian $ to Indian Rupees when we arrived at the hotel for a great rate (60:1 versus 55:1).

From the moment we arrived at the Delhi airport to the moment we left , Raj and his team took good care of us!

Every step of the way a team member was there to answer our questions and provide in person support. This was the first guided motorcycle trip most of us had been on.

We arrived a day before the ride started so Raj arranged a tour in New Delhi, we were picked up in a comfortable air conditioned van and had a great guide and driver. After the initial tour was finished the guide took us for a coffee/snack and then showed us more areas of interest for no additional charge!

Then we took. 4.5 hour train ride and then a 3 hour van ride to where the ride would start.

We met Raj and his team (Akash, mechanic and Lamu, driver) at a comfortable hotel.

Raj surprised the group by having 2 of the new Himalayan 450cc model motorcycles (not available in North America yet). He had ordered 5 but there was limited stock so only 2 arrived.

I rode both the 411 and the 450 and the 450 is definitely my choice!

Every day was a new adventure of sights, people, experiences, challenges and fun!

The accommodations were diverse, unique and comfortable and also included 2 nights in tents.

The food was plentiful and tasty!

Raj and his team were very attentive and understanding of our needs and wishes.

I’ve done road and adventure riding in western Canada, the western US and many times in Mexico (I have a bike stored there) and this ride has far surpassed anything I’ve experienced on any other ride times a factor of 100!!!!

When we finished the ride we had two more days of tours from New Delhi arranged and those went very well! Again the guide for the Taj tour said we could do other tours afterwards if we wanted as we had him and the driver for the whole day!

Everyone must do a bicycle tour of Old Delhi, it is something you will never forget!!

Myself and the group were very impressed with Raj and the Brahmand Tours team and we look forward to coming back for another thrilling and memorable experience!

Thanks Team Bramhand!

My experience with Brahmand Tour was great from our first email to the end of ths trip. They created a trip based on my time line and other circumstances. I found the trip incredibly organized. Staff were skilled and my wellbeing was important.

There were no problems on my 8 day trip and if there were I believe they would be well managed. I found the scenery impressive and roads thrilling. I recommend traveling by motorbike and using this company.

There is no better way to experience India than on a motorcycle. Our tour leader, Vivek was simply amazing. He provided great insight into the local culture and was very patient in explaining the nuances of Indian culture. He was a very safe rider and we ended the trip with no safety issues. We also had a great motorcycle mechanic and a safe driver with the chase vehicle. The bike was a Royal Enfield Himalayan, which was in excellent mechanical condition. No issues with the Bike. Mechanic made sure to get it prepped each day. Overall experience: Excellent ! Will join Brahmand organized tour again.

Lessons: 3 star hotels are just about right. Not all of them are the same though. Make sure before check in to inquire if the hotel has a/c if during hot season and Heater during cold season. Also, strip the bedsheets to make sure there are no bed bugs. One of these hotels got me :-(. No fault of Brahmand but best for us travelers to be aware of this.. any where we go.

Frequently Asked Questions (Canada)

How does riding in India compare to riding in Canada?

Riding in India is more technical and immersive. You will encounter tighter mountain roads, more variable surfaces, different traffic behavior, and constant landscape changes. Unlike Canada's long open highways, Indian routes demand steady focus at lower speeds. Many Canadian riders find the experience far more engaging and rewarding.

What happens if my motorcycle breaks down in a remote area?

Guided motorcycle tours are supported by a mechanic and a backup vehicle that travels with the group. Most mechanical issues are repaired on-site. If the bike cannot continue, a replacement is arranged and the rider rejoins the group without missing the journey.

Is this tour physically demanding for Canadian riders used to colder climates?

The physical demand comes more from altitude and long riding days than heat. Canadian riders generally adapt well but benefit from light fitness preparation, hydration discipline, and proper rest. Tour pacing is designed to maintain energy and prevent exhaustion.

Do I need previous off-road experience for Indian mountain routes?

No. While some sections include gravel and uneven surfaces, tours are designed for riders with basic road experience. Guides provide technique coaching during the ride, making it accessible even for riders without off-road backgrounds.

How far in advance should Canadians book these tours?

You must book 5-6 months in advance, especially for Himalayan Motorcycle Tour departures between June and September. Early booking secures preferred dates, motorcycles, and group options.

Do Canadians need a visa to visit India?

Yes, Canadian citizens require an Indian visa. The eVisa (eTourist Visa) can be applied online at indianvisaonline.gov.in and typically takes 3-5 business days to process. Your passport must have at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival. Brahmand Tour assists Canadian riders with visa guidance as part of the booking process.

What license do Canadian riders need to ride a motorcycle in India?

Canadian riders must carry their valid provincial motorcycle license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) that specifically covers motorcycle riding. The IDP must be carried together with your original license at all times while riding in India. Tour operators verify all documentation before departure to ensure a hassle-free experience.

What motorcycles are used on the tours?

Tours primarily feature Royal Enfield motorcycles including the Himalayan 450 for mountain expeditions and Classic 350 for highway and cultural routes. These bikes are robust, reliable, and purpose-built for Indian terrain. All motorcycles are fitted with panniers, crash guards, and are fully serviced before each tour departure.

What should I pack for a motorcycle tour in India?

Bring your riding jacket, gloves, sturdy boots, and layered clothing for temperature changes. Canadian riders coming from cold climates should pack for Indian warmth but also carry thermal layers for Himalayan passes. A waterproof jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, reusable water bottle, personal medications, and a basic first-aid kit are essential. A detailed packing checklist is provided before your trip.

When is the best time for Canadians to visit India for motorcycle touring?

For Himalayan routes like Ladakh and Spiti, the season is May through September when mountain passes are open and accessible. Rajasthan and cultural routes are best from October through March when temperatures are comfortable. Many Canadian riders plan their India trip during Canadian winter months (October-March) to enjoy warm desert and coastal riding in Rajasthan and South India.

What accommodation is provided on the tour?

Accommodation includes comfortable hotels in cities, heritage properties in Rajasthan, and the best available guesthouses in remote mountain regions. In Ladakh and Spiti, lodging is basic but clean with hot water and meals. Rajasthan offers unique desert camp stays. All accommodation is carefully selected to balance comfort with authentic adventure experiences.

Are meals included and can dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Yes, breakfast and dinner are included on most tour packages. Indian cuisine naturally provides extensive vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. For specific dietary needs or allergies, inform us at booking and we coordinate with all hotels and restaurants along the route. Lunch stops feature local eateries where riders choose from varied menus.

How much does a motorcycle tour in India cost for Canadian riders?

Tour packages typically range from CAD 2,000 to CAD 5,500 depending on the route, duration, and accommodation level. This includes motorcycle rental with fuel, experienced road captain, backup vehicle with mechanic, accommodation, meals (breakfast and dinner), all permits, and airport transfers. International flights and travel insurance are not included. Contact us for a personalized quote based on your preferred tour.
